Team Official

Dr. Brooks is one of Florida State Universities’ Electrical Engineering Professors. He is the professor of the senior design project class for which this competition will count for and will be serving as the Team Official. Dr. Brooks has extensive experience working for the Department of Defense (DOD) at locations such as Fort Rucker and Eglin AFB. He has specialty skills in modeling and simulation, signal processing, and software programming. He currently teaches signal processing and control systems classes.

TRA/NAR Mentor

John is a retired electronics engineer from the Department of Defense. John has been flying model rockets since his childhood years in the early sixties in south Florida where he could watch from his home all the manned space flight missions. John and his grandfather built radios so that they could listen to the downlink from the manned capsules to earth at all hours. About 10 years ago John got the bug for high power and is now a Level 3 flyer with both NAR and Tripoli. He flies with the SouthEast Alabama Rocketry Society (SEARS) and is the club’s treasurer and section advisor. John is a member of the NAR Level 3 Certification Committee, flies big heavy rockets, and is active in outreach with rockets through TARC, SLI, USLI, STEM and the Science and Discovery Center. Promoting math and science, while having fun flying rockets, is one of John’s big pushes in retirement.

Bryce - Project Manager

Bryce is a senior currently pursuing both his Bachelor and Master degrees concurrently in FSU’s 4+1 Electrical Engineering fast-track to graduate program. Bryce is also a National Science Foundation Scholarship recipient. His passion for engineering lies in systems design and leadership. Passions outside of college include football, auto racing, and small remote robot projects.

Chief Engineer

Chris - Chief Engineer

Chris is currently a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering at Florida State University, Panama City Campus. He has always been intrigued by electronics and computers, and has known from an early age that he wanted to be an Electrical Engineer. He was also intrigued by NASA, space, hobby rocketry, and the challenges they presented, which led him to start a rocketry club at his High School to enter the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). He is a very experienced rocketeer and is currently a Level 3 Certified TRA (Tripoli Rocketry Association) member. Chris has recently gained much interest in embedded Linux computing and Programming through his work as an intern at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama city Division, during the summer of 2010.

Brittney - Safety Officer

Britney is a senior studying Electrical Engineering, set to graduate April 2012. She has interned both at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division in Panama City, FL as well as the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division in Dahlgren, VA. During her internship at NSWC-DD she became certified as both a Technical Laser Safety Officer as well as a Laser Safety Specialist. Upon graduation she is interested in getting her masters in either Systems or Electrical Engineering.

Software Engineer

Steve - Software Engineer

Steve is a senior in the Electrical Engineering program at Florida State University, Panama City Campus. During his time in school, he has worked for an engineering firm, gaining valuable insight to the real-world side of engineering. From childhood he has been drawn to things that fly, and has enjoyed many hobbies from model airplanes to small scale rocketry. He is also fascinated with the exploration of space and can sometimes be caught staring at the moon thinking, “We were there…” After graduation in May 2012 he plans to continue work towards a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Hardware Engineer

Kevin Hardware Engineer

William is a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering at Florida State University. At an early age, he loved to discover how object s worked. He was always fascinated with taking things apart and putting them back together. In high school, the love of math and science, especially calculus and physics, guided him toward the world of engineering. As a team member, his role in the project is that of hardware engineer. Here he can apply the electrical engineering skills he has obtained thus far. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, he plans to pursue his Master’s Degree.

Financial Officer

Mark - Financial Officer

Mark is an undergraduate senior at Florida State University studying Electrical Engineering. His interests include real time system design and robotics. He is a recipient of the National Science Foundation Scholarship for engineering students. He has a deep passion for mechanics. This project will be his first experience with rockets or anything aerospace related.
